Flashbacks of Boot Camp

This man might have been suffering from PTSD, he suddenly started to recite military drill procedure, swiftly followed by a push up regimen right on 8th Ave, NYC.

More and more I see on my daily walks through the city, and in particular midtown West, the effects of joblessness, drugs and alcohol. Some are military Vets, some are veterans of homelessness, some are both.

It is being said that the economy is getting better and GDP is expanding, and even if this is so... we are witnessing a regression in NYC, it's looking more and more like the 80's when the city was really rough. The streets are again littered with the homeless and downtrodden.  • Sept. 2016

Snowcone Vendor • Bridgetown, Barbados - Barbados 50th Anniversary of Independence

This is a typical scene in Bridgetown, the heart of Barbados...my home country. Barbados will celebrate 50 years of Independence in November, 2016.

In 1966 Barbados achieved its Independence after over 300 years under British rule, from 1625 when the first English settlers claimed the island. Although an independent state within the Commonwealth Nations, the island still maintains its ties to the British monarch which is represented by the Governor General.

Today, Barbados' Independence celebrations are held throughout the entire month of November with many cultural events and activities. Flags and the national colours of blue yellow and black are prominently featured during this period, with decorative lighting in Bridgetown the Capital and at highway roundabouts around the island, as one of the major highlights.

Weather: The country generally experiences two seasons, one of which includes noticeably higher rainfall. Known as the "wet season", this period runs from June to November. By contrast, the "dry season" runs from December to May. Annual precipitation ranges between 1,000 and 2,300 mm (40 and 90 in). From December to May the average temperatures range from 21 to 31 °C (70 to 88 °F), while between June and November, they range from 23 to 31 °C (73 to 88 °F).

Either way it's a beach laden paradise, which we will cover in next week's article...Stay tuned!
